Auto Lube Care's Eco-Vow

Yes, taking care of the planet is great for humans. We know that. But we also know it’s great for business. Saving energy, recycling and other practices just make common sense.

Earlier this year, we coupled our promise to provide outstanding customer service with our long-standing commitment to the environment. This new promise is our vow to deliver “EcoQuality” to every customer.

Here are some of our approaches to EcoQuality:

Recycle wherever possible. In addition to used oil and oil filters, we also recycle coolant, batteries, steel, plastic and paper waste.

Cut down on paper. All printing is double-sided, and files are electronic-only when possible.

Conserve water. Our landscaping is drought-tolerant and cared for by drip irrigation; and we don’t hose down our floors or push contaminants out to the storm drains.

Conserve energy. All of our fixtures are energy-saving and we make sure all computers are turned off at night.

Work with environmentally friendly vendors. We’ve checked that our uniform company is handling waste water properly, and we’re always choosing green vendors when we have the option. We constantly monitor the company that handles our used oil to be sure it is destined to be re-refined back into clean motor oil.

Help our clients make their cars greener. We’ve added tire rotations to help you get better wear and gas mileage; and we now offer EcoPower® -- a re-refined motor oil as an option for oil changes.

Drain every oil container of all free flowing oil before it leaves our shop so it doesn't have a chance to end up in a landfill or the ocean.

I Will Recommend this Shop to My Friends

Terry, the assistant manager was in a complete, clean uniform. He was neatly presented, and was very polite and friendly. The service took just over 30 minutes to complete, which was very fast considering everything that they did. The store was very clean and neat. There was a very nice outside seating area, where it was warm and sunny. This shop blended into the neighborhood very nicely, with no obtrusive signs or banners. The cashier area had a little clutter, and the restroom needed some wiping down.

Perry, the technician that worked on my vehicle, was very thorough, and told me everything they had checked. He showed me the cabin air filters, which were quite dirty, so I had them changed. Based on the mileage of the vehicle, he told me several things that were recommended. I told him they had recently been done, but I did ask him the price of transmission and differential service which he knew immediately.

Terry closed me out thoroughly. He explained everything that was on my invoice. He pointed out when my next service was due. He thanked me, invited me to return, and referred to me by my name and title. He did not mention anything about the free top off service. This was the most efficient and friendly oil change I think I have ever had. I will recommend this shop to my friends.

Disclaimer: This review was provided by an anonymous person, and the Auto Lube Care team did not know a review was being created.
All employees were engaged in job related tasks.

The associate who approached my car had a smile on his face and energy in his voice. His lengthy greeting was very informative. Fide, the technician, proceeded to explain all the service options available to me and finished by asking me what service I was interested in.

The shop was orderly. Tools and supplies were hung neatly on the wall. There was a clean, black rubber mat covering the floor. The waiting area was very tidy. The floor was clean. The coffee station was stocked and ready for guests. There were periodicals available. I entered the restroom and it was well stocked and neat as a pin.

Nearly 25 minutes into my service visit, Fide appeared in front of me with a list of preventative maintenance items that he felt I should know about. He explained each item on the list in easy to understand language. He showed me the dirty air filter that had come out of my engine. He made his recommendations without making me feel pressured to authorize additional services.

The fluids were all checked, as well as the tire pressure. The car was left clean and there was no dirt, fingerprints or grime left behind. All employees were engaged in job related tasks.

Both Fide and Terry had explained the top-off policy and also that my right passenger tire was low. Terry took the time to walk me over to the car and explained that the tire had a nail in it. A section of the tire was beginning to separate from the side wall. He pointed out the areas of concern. Fide had chalked the areas to highlight them and recommended that I get these issues taken care of right away. He shook my hand and thanked me (using my name) for my business. Just before I pulled away, Fide appeared at my door one last time to thank me and pointed out the return date recommended for my next service.

My visit was excellent. The associate went over all the maintenance of my car carefully and fully explained any areas of concern. The associates were pleasant and friendly. I would feel comfortable recommending this establishment to my women friends.

Disclaimer: This review was provided by an anonymous person, and the Auto Lube Care team did not know a review was being created.
Our History of EcoQuality

In 1974, when my father opened Auto Lube Care, the world had just begun to discover how important the environment truly was.

He wasn't a tree hugger by any means, but he was adamant about doing what he could. In fact, he started one of the first oil recycling programs in the region -- taking used oil and oil filters from the do-it-yourselfers at home; keeping those toxins out of the landfills and storm drains.

After a stint in the army as a medic, I came home in 1975 and joined my dad at the shop. For a long time, we worked side by side, building the business and taking extra special care of our customers and their cars.

As one of the oldest quick lubes in the nation (non-franchised), we've consistently led the industry in developing new ways to take care of the environment. One of those ways involved developing a unique press to crush used oil filters so we could get remove that oil before disposal.

At that time, we were required by law to haul away our used filters in a 55 gallon drum. But with our process, we could fit 3 times as many in a can. It quickly caught on, so we worked with an engineer to develop and manufacture a version we could sell nationwide, called "The Impactor". We then worked as part of a national coalition to convince the EPA that if an oil filter had all free flowing oil removed and it was destined for proper disposal (steel yard) that it need not be classified as a hazardous waste.

Later, we worked with a steel company to take these used filters and recycle them into rebar. We received several honors and awards for those innovations, including: 'Operator of The Year' from the National Oil and Lube News (1991) and the 'Environmental Award' from the Convenient Automotive
Services Institute (1992).

Michael came to the truck window almost immediately with a scanner in hand and while he was saying, "Hi, what brings you in today and how can we help you?", he scanned the VIN on the dash. When I told him the sticker says it is time he said, "Great, the sticker doesn't lie". He then reached in to check the odometer and told me they would get to my truck within 5 minutes, so this should not take too long. I proceeded to sit on the bench out front and have my lunch and do some paperwork.

Michael was very friendly, courteous and quick about his job. He did give me a clipboard and asked if I could put my information down, as they had recently updated their computer system and wanted to make sure my information was correct. I filled out part of it, then asked if I was in the system, I checked what address, and phone number they had for me on file. He told me, all was correct, then he asked if I had an email. He said they were planning on sending coupons via email versus regular mail as soon as they got a customer's email address.

The shop was in top notch shape. I checked the restroom and it was spotless with all supplies full. The waiting room had coffee with a choice of creamers. There were several magazines to choose from. The grounds were clear of any trash, the outdoor seating area was clean and on the sunny side of the building it was quite nice. There was a planter out front that was dug up.

I did not see Fidencio until he came out front to tell me that all fluids, differential, window washer, and all filters were in good shape. He did note that I had a F&M air filter and asked when the last time it was serviced. He also said their records did not show that the fuel filter had been changed and explained their fuel saver special to me. I told him it had been done by the dealer at the last major service. He said he just wanted to make sure it was done so I would get the best mileage possible.

The shop was running like a well oiled machine. They were communicating information back and forth regarding the listed fluid levels, tire pressure, etc. They even did a full check of the exterior lights and found I was missing a third brake light bulb and offered to replace it for $5.95.

Everyone in the shop, although busy, were very friendly, in clean uniforms and smiled when I looked at them. The cashier did not remind me about the free top off policy. I give very high marks for the team that did the work today.

Disclaimer: This review was provided by an anonymous person, and the Auto Lube Care team did not know a review was being created.

I was greeted promptly by both Fide and Michael. They were both equally polite and pleasant. I was greeted immediately upon entering the service area. There was absolutely no delay in being greeted. It was very sincere.

Fide was genuine in my interaction with him. He was well groomed and neat in appearance. He seemed very thorough. Other technicians were also neat in appearance. I was waited on in record time. There was just one customer ahead of me and she was just being served as well. This was not a busy time.

Both the exterior and interior were well maintained and appealing. All bay areas were organized and tidy. The service counter was free from clutter. The restroom was clean and well stocked. The waiting area had refreshments available and there were mini donuts as well. The reading material was up to date and plentiful. All windows and glass areas were clean and free from smudges. The lighting was perfect.

Fide came into the waiting area to go over mechanical needs on my vehicle. He showed me my air filter and suggested it needed to be changed out. I declined, stating I could replace it myself. He also recommended 60,000 mile service which would be coming up soon. He also recommended that I get the tires rotated. He remarked that my transmission fluid could use flushing and that they could provide these services to me when I was ready. Michael also went over the mechanical needs and recommendations with me, when I was being rung up. I found both employees to be very honest and sincere.

The tire pressure was checked and I was told that everything checked out fine in that area. The required fluids were right where they were supposed to be. My car was in great condition when it was returned to me. It was free from dirt and grime. Everything was protected. Other technicians were busy with job related tasks. No one was standing around idle.

I was treated very respectfully. I was reminded of my next service and provided with a receipt. I was properly thanked and felt welcomed. Michael and Fide gave me a parting greeting.
Tips to be More Environmental with any Vehicle

EcoHearth released a nice article recently about How to Choose a Green Car, Truck or SUV. In this article they shared a few tips on how anyone with any car could be more environmental. Check them out...

Here is a list of helpful things that you can do with any vehicle to be more environmental:

Drive less aggressively. Reducing speed, avoiding quick accelerations and using cruise control when possible will save fuel and reduce air pollution.

Turn off your engine rather than let it idle if you are stopping for more than 30 seconds.

Remove unneeded cargo from your trunk. Getting rid of excess weight will increase your gas mileage.

Take care of your vehicle. Regular maintenance (especially replacing your air filters) can improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.

Recycle old car parts such as batteries, tires and oil filters at a local recycling center.

Last but certainly not least, drive less. When possible, bike, walk, use public transit or carpool. These are all fun and healthy alternatives to driving alone.

Get more details on how to choose a "green" car or truck by reading the entire article here.

Heat, Not Cold, Shortens Battery Life

Here’s a hot tip about car batteries: Warm weather is the time for major car-battery problems. Heat, not cold, shortens battery life, says the Car Care Council. The average life of a battery is three and a half years, and even shorter in warmer climates.

Excessive heat and overcharging are the two main reasons for shortened battery life. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, which damages the internal structure of the battery. A malfunctioning component in the charging system, usually the voltage regulator, allows too high a charging rate. That can mean a slow death for a battery.

Posted By:

Car Care Council

Ventura, Listen Up! - Gas Saving Tips

Motorists traveling during holiday vacations can’t do much about the high price of gas, but they can pay less at the pump by making sure their vehicles get maximum fuel economy. According to the Car Care Council, fuel economy is directly related to vehicle care and driver behavior and both can have a significant impact on how much motorists pay at the pump.

Under-inflated tires can impact the vehicle’s fuel economy. When tires aren’t inflated properly, it’s similar to driving with the parking brake on and can cost a mile or two per gallon. Dirty air filters can also waste gas and cause the engine to lose power.

An air filter that is clogged with dirt, dust and bugs chokes off the air and creates a “rich” mixture, which is too much gas being burned for the amount of air. Replacing a clogged air filter can improve gas mileage by as much as 10 percent.

Posted By:Car Care Council

Looking for a Ventura Oil Change? Think Green!

If you’re due for an oil change, you know you have a choice
of oil since you got your car. Now there is a more important choice to make.

We
are no longer required to use oil that is 100% from crude, we can recycle and
re-refine oil, and the end product is better than oil from crude. Motor oil
never wears out, it just gets dirty. Oil
can be recycled, re-refined and used again and again, reducing our reliance on
imported oil. Progressive lube shop owners all over the world are choosing to
offer these types of re-refined oil to their customers.

The reasons why are
numerous! Here are a few...

Up to 85% less energy is consumed in the re-refining of used oil when compared to the traditional refining of crude oil

Conserves irreplaceable petroleum resources

Reduces air pollution from the reduction of used oil that
is “down cycled” and burned as fuel oil or bunker fuel

Reduces U.S. reliance on foreign crude oil

Eliminates the need for environmentally damaging
off-shore drilling and transportation

Promotes proper collection of used oil thus reducing
ground and water contamination

Domestic collection, transportation and production support
local economies, not the global infrastructure of Big Oil

Support a local business committed to Ventura's green
initiative

We are excited to offer this choice to you.

Your welcome to come see us and if you choose another place
we encourage you to make a recycled & re-refined oil choice!

Hitting a pothole can damage tires, wheels, steering and suspension, wheel alignment and more. The Car Care Council recommends that motorists who experience any of the following warning signs after hitting a pothole should have a professional technician at their local repair shop inspect the vehicle.

Loss of control, swaying when making routine turns, bottoming-out on city streets or bouncing excessively on rough roads. These are indicators that the steering and suspension may have been damaged. The steering and suspension are key safety-related systems. Together, they largely determine your car’s ride and handling. Key components are shocks and/or struts, the steering knuckle, ball joints, the steering rack/box, bearings, seals and hub units and tie rod ends.

Pulling in one direction, instead of maintaining a straight path, and uneven tire wear. These symptoms mean there’s an alignment problem. Proper wheel alignment is important for the lifespan of tires and helps ensure safe handling.

Low tire pressure, bulges or blisters on the sidewalls, or dents in the rim. These problems will be visible and should be checked out as soon as possible as tires are the critical connection between your car and the road in all sorts of driving conditions.

Article brought to you by Car Care Council

This Ventura Quick Lube Does Preventative Maintenance Right

When I approached the location, I noticed there were two service bays. One of the bays had a vehicle in service. I drove up to the empty bay, and was greeted immediately by Perry.

The employee was friendly and provided a warm greeting. He assisted me immediately, and I had no wait time at all.

This location was generally very clean and presentable. The interior areas were well maintained, but were clearly well used. There was plenty of reading material and coffee available for customers.

The employee approached me in the waiting area where I was seated. He presented me with a printout that listed the services they had performed and the services that were recommended. The printout also contained prices of the recommended services. The employee answered my questions, and did not pressure me to accept any of their suggestions.

The service was excellent. My vehicle was returned to me with no noticeable grease or dirt. All fluids were checked, and the employee told me what they had found.

I was closed out by the manger, Michael. He explained everything on my receipt. He told me about the free top-off policy. He told me that I would also receive a reminder card in the mail for my next service. He thanked me by my name, and invited me to have a nice day.

Disclaimer: This review was provided by an anonymous person, and the Auto Lube Care team did not know a review was being created.
Sustainable Ventura Honors Auto Lube Care

The Environmental Sustainability Division is pleased to select Auto Lube Care as the 2011 Environmental Excellence Award winner. Mayor Mike Tracy conferred the honor on owner Glenn Morris at last week’s Ventura Chamber of Commerce Poinsettia Awards luncheon. The award is given each year to a Ventura business that is doing an outstanding job of considering the environment in their business practices. Auto Lube Care at 1875 East Thompson Blvd. has been in business in Ventura since 1974. As one of the oldest non-franchised quick lubes in the nation, they have consistently led the industry in developing new ways to care for the environment. Even before it was the thing to do, Glenn Morris, the current President and CEO who joined his father in the business in 1975, designed and patented an oil filter crusher to extract and capture the extra oil so the filter could be safely disposed. The device is still being used today at their shop. They have also been a used oil collection center for the City, giving those who change their own motor oil a convenient place to bring their used oil for environmentally safe disposal and recycling.

Auto Lube Care also shows its commitment to the environment through its EcoQuality program. This program encourages customers to use re-refined motor oil that uses 85% less energy to make than traditional motor oil. Three out of four of their oil changes now use re-refined motor oil. As an additional incentive, a tree is planted on behalf of every customer that is serviced with re-refined oil. Auto Lube Care also runs an environmentally friendly shop by recycling, using energy efficient lighting and low-water use landscape. Congratulations to Auto Lube Care! You are an environmental business role model for our City.

Article from Sustainable Ventura

Contact: Christine Wied

cwied@cityofventura.net

Courtney Lindberg

clinberg@cityofventura.net

If you have any of these comment and let us know how they run.

Do you think there should be another car in the list?

Let us know via the comments below.

Top 10 Green Cars: #1

2011 Nissan Leaf | 99 mpg equivalent

With a groundbreaking combination of range, room and price, the Nissan Leaf is the first all-electric car for the masses. The EPA says the Leaf will deliver 73 miles per charge and the equivalent of 99 miles per gallon. But that's not the only thing green about the Leaf: recycled materials made from home appliances, old car parts and plastic bottles are used extensively throughout the vehicle. The limited range disqualifies the Leaf as an option for some drivers, but for those who can swing it, the Nissan Leaf is the real deal.

Top 10 Green Cars: #2

2011 Chevy Volt | 93 mpg equivalent

For the first 35 miles of the day, the Chevy Volt is an electric car. After that, a gas engine kicks in to power the car for up to 379 miles. Some argue the all-electric Nissan Leaf is greener. Volt fans point to their car's superior range. We can recommend both, depending on the needs and desires of the buyer. As a bonus, the Volt looks like a tasteful vision of the future - inside and out - and is one of the most fun electrically driven cars we've driven so far.

Top 10 Green Cars: #3

2011 Toyota Prius | 50 mpg (51 city, 48 highway)

The original hybrid for the masses is still the segment's heavyweight when it comes to getting the most miles for your gallon. Whereas some efficiency-focused cars require an adjustment in driving habits to wring the most out of the vehicle's fuel-saving technologies, the Prius allows you to drive as you normally would and still see mpg returns that you can brag about during your semi-regular visits to the gas station.

Top 10 Green Cars: #4

2011 Lexus CT 200h | 42 mpg (43 city, 40 highway)

Top 10 Green Cars: #5

2011 Honda Insight | 41 mpg (40 city/43 highway)

Top 10 Green Cars: #6

2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid | 39 mpg (41 city/36 highway)

Top 10 Green Cars: #7

2011 Volkswagen Golf TDI | 34 mpg (30 city/42 highway)

Top 10 Green Cars: #8

2011 Hyundai Elantra | 33 mpg (29 city, 40 highway)

Top 10 Green Cars: #9

2012 Fiat 500 | 33 mpg (30 city/38 highway)

Top 10 Green Car #10:

2012 Ford Focus | 31 mpg (28 city/38 highway)

See the full article for all descriptions at:

http://www.kbb.com/car-news/all-the-latest/top-10-green-cars-for-2011/

Ventura Green Driving Tips!

Here are two auto tips from the Car Care Council and a bonus tip from us as #3. use these tips to help us Keep Ventura Green!

#1 Tire Checks

According to the Car Care Council, around two billion gallons of gas each year could be saved if the tires on every American’s car were properly inflated. Optimal tire pressure for your vehicle is listed in the owner’s manual. Tires that are not properly inflated add rolling resistance that makes the engine work harder to move the vehicle. All of this increases fuel costs as much as three to five cents per gallon, and increases the risk of engine damage.

#2 Gas Caps and Fill-Ups

Check your vehicle’s gas cap. Approximately 17 percent of vehicles on the road have loose, damaged or missing gas caps, causing 147 million gallons of gas to vaporize every year. Topping off your gas tank when filling up your car can also release harmful vapors into the environment.

#3 Re-Refined Oil

This one is from us at Auto Lube Care...when you get an oil change choose a re-refined oil. The benefits are numerous, the big one is that it takes 85 percent less energy to re-refine used motor oil than it does to produce motor oil from crude oil. That is a BIG deal! Check out our EcoQuality category for more posts on this topic.

More on going Green from Car Care Council here >>

Ventura Oil Change Review: My Visit Was Excellent

The associate who approached my car had a smile on his face and energy in his voice. His lengthy greeting was very informative. Fide, the technician, proceeded to explain all the service options available to me and finished by asking me what service I was interested in.

Fide was in uniform and had a well presented appearance. He serviced my car in a methodical, but quick manner. He was friendly, courteous and polite.

People often ask and wonder what they can do to be more “green”. Here are two auto tips from the Car Care Council that help us Keep Ventura Green, and we also included a tip from us as #3.

#1 Drive Smart

If you have to drive your car, recognize that how you drive has a lot to do with fuel economy. Avoid sudden starts and stops and go the speed limit. Jerky and aggressive driving decreases your miles per gallon (MPG) and increases wear and tear on your vehicle. Minimize unnecessary miles by combining errands in one trip.

#2 Lighten the Load

Get the junk out of the trunk and the stuff out of your car, with the exception of emergency items such as a spare tire, flares and a first-aid kit. Extra items weigh the vehicle down and cause an increase in gas usage.

#3 Re-Refined Oil

This one is from us at Auto Lube Care...when you get an oil change choose a re-refined oil.
Most Efficient & Friendly Oil Change I Think I Have Ever Had

Terry, the assistant manager, came up to my truck with a smile and a cheerful greeting. When I told him I needed an oil change, he said, " Great. We can do that, and more if you need." He told me where to wait, and was very accommodating when I asked if I could use their phone book.

Terry was in a complete, clean uniform.

There were two vehicles being serviced when I came in. The employees were busy doing their duties, and it was only a few minutes before they moved my vehicle into place for the work. When Perry was going over the checklist, he said my wipers were okay but I might want to get them changed before the rainy season began. I asked the price; he told me, and I asked him to do that as well. The work was done very fast, and I was done in what seemed like no time at all.

Terry, the assistant manager, closed me out thoroughly.

One way to save some cash on gas is to win a free gas card through our Like contest on Facebook! We also raffle off giftcertificates to local restaurants. All you have to do is "like us" to be entered!

Our friends at Sustainable Ventura came up with 10 more great tips to help you save some $ on gas!

By Christine Wied

1. Avoid “jack rabbit” starts, sudden stops and aggressive driving. These practices not only waste gas and wear out brakes but also increase carbon monoxide emissions.

2. Keep your vehicle well maintained. One misfiring spark plug can cut fuel economy by 4%. Schedule your vehicle preventive maintenance as soon as it is due.

3. Keep tires properly inflated and aligned. Check the owner’s manual or sticker sometimes found on the side of the driver’s door for the recommended pressure. When it’s time to get new tires, see if low-rolling-resistance (LRR) replacements are an option. Although these are meant for fuel economy, be aware they can affect your vehicle’s ride and handling.

4. Drive the speed limit. Fuel economy decreases about 1% for each mile per hour over 55. Driving 65 mph instead of 75 mph increases fuel economy by about 10% and decreases your risk of a costly speeding ticket. Use cruise control when appropriate to maintain a steady speed.

5. Clean out the excess items in the car. Don’t use your vehicle as a storage location. Carry the sports equipment, tools and other items only when needed. For every extra 100 pounds your car carries, it loses 2% fuel economy.

6. Use overdrive. If your car is equipped with overdrive gearing (on 5-speed manual transmissions and 4-speed automatic transmissions), make use of it as soon as you have reached a high enough speed. If you have a manual transmission, the lower the shift-speed, the better the fuel economy.

7. Don’t let your car idle. In addition to contributing to engine wear and tear and air pollution, when your vehicle is idling, you are getting zero miles per gallon of gasoline use. It is better to shut off your engine for even 30 seconds then to let it run while waiting for someone or in a drive-up window line.

8. Use air conditioning when appropriate. Use the vents and open windows to cool off the vehicle even before you turn on the air conditioner. Air conditioning increases fuel consumption and could increase NOx emissions in some vehicles. On the freeway, keep the

9. Windows up to reduce drag, and set the air conditioner as low as is tolerable. Park in the shade if possible.

10. Walk, bicycle, or take public transportation, rideshare or carpool when possible. The cheapest gallon of gas is the one you don’t have to buy.

Read full article here:

Drive with care every day and your car will reward you with longer intervals without repair.

Fix small windshield chips

Got a rock chip, crack, or ding in your windshield? Bring your car to a windshield repair shop. For far less cost than replacing the windshield, they can fix chips and cracks, even quite long ones. The repairs not only keep the chips and cracks from spreading and restore structural integrity, they also improve clarity.

Top off your brake fluid (Come by Auto Lube Care, and we will do this for you.)

Check brake fluid monthly. Wipe dirt from the master cylinder lid before you open it. If you need fluid, add the type recommended by your car’s maker. Never substitute other fluids, such as transmission or power-steering fluid. And don’t use brake fluid from a previously opened container. Once exposed to air, brake fluid absorbs moisture and contaminates easily.

Read more here...

Still Texting While Driving in Ventura?

Have you wondered if the new law actually works? Does the new law decrease accidents? An article we found in a Highway & Vehicle Safety report says that it is not decreasing accidents...but it’s not necessarily the law not working, it’s more likely that people are still texting. If texting while driving is likely to cause accidents, and we know that people are texting more than ever then accidents WILL increase if people still text while they drive. I definitely see people all around me still playing with their phones, how about you? It is hard to blame a law if people do not follow it!

Here is the article:

Texting bans don't reduce crashes but actually increase the frequency of the number of insurance claims, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute. HLDI compared claims in four states (California, Louisiana, Washington, and Minnesota) before and after texting was made illegal and used nearby states for comparison.

In all four states, crashes increased among drivers younger than aged 25 after the ban took effect. Noncompliance is a likely reason texting bans aren't reducing crashes.

Many drivers, especially younger ones, ignore bans.

Among 18-24-year-olds, the group most likely to text, 45 percent reported doing so anyway. HLDI points out that if drivers were disregarding the bans, then the crash patterns should have remained steady.

So clearly drivers did respond to the bans somehow, and what they might have been doing was moving their phones down and out of sight when they texted, in recognition that what they were doing was illegal. This could exacerbate the risk of texting by taking drivers' eyes further from the road and for a longer time.

- Highway & Vehicle/Safety Report 10.18.10.p2

How often do you really need to change motor oil?

A fan of our ventura oil change facebook page recently asked this question:

"How often do you really need to change motor oil?" there are so many articles and reports on this all over the internet. Many new vehicle's manuals now recommend that hey can wait 10,000 miles or more between oil changes!

The Auto Lube Care response:

At Auto Lube Care, we do not sell cars, our highest desire is for you to maintain your vehicle so that you can get the longest usage of it possible. Why keep buying new, when you can properly maintain your vehicle and make your initial investment last as long as possible? Wherever you go for your oil change, we also recommend choosing an EcoQuality oil, which is much better for our environment than oil made directly from crude.

There are too many factors involved to determine one general interval for every driver! According to the Manufacturer there are always 2 intervals one for Normal Service and One for Severe service. Normal driving would be someone who commutes regularly with little to no traffic. Unfortunately most So Cal drivers fall under severe service, Short trips, stop and go traffic, around town driving, and many short start and stop drives. These conditions are much harder on your vehicle. Ford has already released a statement recalling there extended drain intervals due to engine damage. Always keep in mind the car manufacturer wants to sell cars, so if everyone changed there oil every 3000 miles with today's technology cars would last much longer and new car sales would drastically drop. Auto Lube Care still recommends 3000 miles on conventional oil and 5000 miles on synthetic for the typically So Cal driver. There are always exceptions to every rule! If all else fails check your oil every thousand miles, when it gets dirty, get it changed!

If you are in Ventura, you will hopefully visit Auto Lube Care for your oil change!

Save on Gas while cruising the 101!

According to the DOT, tests have found that using your cruise control versus your foot can save an average of about 7 percent on fuel economy.

Increase the airflow …. anything sticking off your vehicle interrupts the airflow and inceases drag, so if you’re not using that ski-rack, surf rack or bicycle rack, take it off ! And if you have a sunroof keep it closed.

Speed is the gas pumps best friend. According to the DOT, fuel mileage for vehicles rapidly declines at speed above 60 mpg. Each five mph over 60 you drive is like paying an additional $0.29 for gas. Slowing down can save you as much as 12 % on gas!

There was Coffee and Tea with Several Flavors

When I pulled in, there was a car in each of the two bays. I was next in line. It only took the manager 30 seconds to come greet me. He was in uniform, had a cap on, and a name badge. He smiled and said, "Hi. How can we help you today?" I told him I needed an oil change, and he asked if there was anything else. He said, "It will be about 5 minutes more. There's coffee inside." He pointed to the waiting room, but I waited in my vehicle. After a few minutes, a technician came over with a pad and greeted me. He smiled, was in uniform, and had a name badge on. He asked if he could open the door. He used a remote gadget, and got my information from the door panel, and thereafter used my name. I had written the mileage down, and handed him the paper. He looked on the windshield for the sticker. He said it would be a few minutes, and went to his office.

The technician who greeted me, Noel, was also the technician who worked on my vehicle. He was in uniform, had a name badge on, and he used eye contact when he spoke. I was initially greeted at 11:33 AM. When my vehicle was done, I was called to the window by Joel, who said, "I'm ready for you now." That was at 12:19 PM. The total amount of time I waited for serving was 46 minutes.

The building sits back on the lot to allow for a vehicle waiting area in the driveway. The signage was not real obvious as I approached the location. There was minimal, but well maintained landscaping. The outside area had a covered bench, and two chairs for customers to wait. The waiting room was clean. There was a coffee and tea counter with several flavors. A container of little donuts was available also. There were magazines and a TV, which had information about things you could have done to your vehicle. The restroom had a good scent, was very clean, and nicely decorated. All windows were clean and lighting was ample.

The technician came into the waiting room, and showed me what had been done, and what items needed attention. He offered to do the cooling system and the fuel filter. The paperwork he had was two pages and easy to read. I declined to have any additional work done. I asked him a question about the rear differential, which he was able to answer.

There were two technicians who worked on my vehicle. Together they checked fluids, tires, battery, and other systems. My paperwork stated that they checked the trans fluid also. I saw them do the brake lights and the blinkers.

The technician called me saying, "I'm ready for you now." He was at the register area. He showed me the papers, and told me the total, which was $52.89. I was surprised at the high amount, and asked why. He explained that my vehicle used one extra oil unit, and that they put an upgraded oil in. I asked what kind of upgraded oil, and he gave me the brand name. I asked if they used that oil in the past, and he said he didn't know, it wasn't in the file. I asked if it would be in my file in the future, and he said yes. I paid with cash, he made the change, and he thanked me as I left.

Disclaimer: This review was provided by an anonymous person, and the Auto Lube Care team did not know a review was being created.
